Congratulations to our 2020 Scholarship winners! 

Declan O'Hara (TBPI) and Kyerra Jones (OBPI) were selected from our talented pool of applicants.  UBPN will continue to support our community and academic endeavors through our scholarship program!

 

The United Brachial Plexus Network (UBPN) will grant up to two (2), $500 first place and two (2), $250 second place academic scholarships annually to individuals with a brachial plexus injury entering college, attending a trade school, and/or attending career retraining. One scholarship will be awarded annually to an applicant with an obstetrical “birth-related” brachial plexus injury (OBPI) and one scholarship will be awarded annually to an applicant with a traumatic brachial plexus injury (TBPI)  provided there are applicants in both groups.

The scholarship Opens February 1, 2021 and closes at 11:59pm PST May 31, 2021. Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and winners will be notified on or before August 15th. This is an individual scholarship that may be reapplied for every year.

IN THE CLASSROOM

• Get Permission from the school administration and/or teacher first.

• Bring cupcakes, or cookies shaped like hands or some kind of treat.

• Read the book Different Just Like Me by Lori Mitchell. Published by Charlesbridge, 1999.  This book is widely available and respected as a wonderful tool for teaching children respect for all people.  For related teaching materials, 5-day lesson plan and color pages, visit www.differentjustlikeme.com.

• Talk to your child's classmates about what it's like to have a Brachial Plexus Injury.  Have them try it out for a while by not using one of their arms or by putting one arm up in the air like it is splinted.

• Hand out bookmarks.
