President's Corner by Nancy Birk, UBPN President October 2003 To the UBPN Community: Greetings! We have just finished the text and layout of the next Outreach and hope to get it to everyone on our mailing list sometime in the next couple of weeks. We had hoped to have it in your mailboxes for Awareness Week but delays in receiving some of the articles kept that from happening. Featured in Outreach are two of our camp presenters, Dr. James O'Leary, who spoke about shoulder dystocia, and Don Meyer, director of the Sibshops, who presented workshops for parents, fathers and siblings. We will introduce you to a new therapy modality called the Anat Baniel Method and we have lots of stories and photos of achievements within our bpi community. We know you will find the articles to be helpful, interesting and informative. Camp was amazing! We have featured some selected photos of camp on this site if you'd like to see what it was like. Time is one of our most precious commodities and I know it is difficult not only to find the money to attend camp but also the time. From the evaluations we received, it is clear that everyone who attended felt it was time and money well spent -- and a life-expanding experience as well. I'd also like to announce that our next camp in 2005 will be a bit different. We are calling it 'city camp' because it is going to be in Washington D.C. Our current plan is to hold it during Awareness Week and coordinate it with a National Proclamation for Brachial Plexus Injury Awareness Week and a rally celebrating that Proclamation. You'll be hearing more about this in the months to come. Finally, if you are joining us because you heard about UBPN during Awareness Week and came to the site to check us out, welcome! Perhaps for the first time you found out that there is a name for
your injury or you never realized that there might be other people with this injury. We hope you will find here a place of information and support.
Best wishes, Nancy Birk, President |
