Ways To Get Your Support Group Involved
in Awareness Week
1. Send a letter to everyone on your mailing list updating them
about Awareness Week and local activities. Ask them to verify
their address so that they can be sure to receive all Awareness
mailings due out soon, including the Outreach Special
Awareness Edition.
2. Consider a bulk purchase of our new silver awareness ribbon
pins to resell to your group, family and friends.
3. Participate in the traditional bell ringing
and/or candlelighting ceremonies.
4. Ask members of your group to participate in the poster and the
literary contests for this year's awareness effort. If you have a
gathering, make poster materials available for people to use.
5. Brainstorm with your group about ways to spread awareness in
your local community. Consider a few of the "Handing Out
Awareness" ideas compiled for you by the Awareness Committee.
6. Contact your local and state leaders for official Awareness
Week Proclamations. The simple, easy to follow instructions
provided by the Awareness Committee make this a fun and rewarding
process that you and your group can really be proud of.
7. Choose a manageable group of medical professionals that treat
people in your community with brachial plexus injuries and provide
them with Awareness materials.
8. Make an effort to approach the media just prior to awareness
week to obtain coverage and inform your local community about
brachial plexus injuries. Use the simple guidelines for contacting
the media provided by the Awareness Committee.
9. Gather your group together for a celebration during Awareness
Week. Ring a bell to "Ring in Awareness" or light
a candle in a brief ceremony to "Bring Brachial Plexus
Injuries to Light." Have fun and get to know each better!
10. Encourage each member of your support group to visit the
Awareness
Website at www.ubpn.org to read
the materials and participate to the best of their ability.
