The Awareness Committee welcomes you to the Awareness section of
the UBPN, Inc. website.
The Awareness "Project" is
broken down into two parts: Awareness Week, which is always
the 3rd week in October, and
"ongoing" Awareness. Awareness,
in general, is an opportunity to educate the public, inform
parents and professionals about the services available, and to
reach out into the general public, thereby making a difference
in the lives of those with brachial plexus injuries.
Our
Goals:
-
to
increase awareness of brachial plexus injuries among the public
at large;
-
to
increase the participation and involvement of the medical
community for awareness;
-
to
increase the participation and involvement of the brachial
plexus communities throughout the nation so that more state
proclamations are requested and processed, to create the
foundation so that we can request a national proclamation;
-
to
make a sincere and conscious effort to reach new families,
individuals affected by brachial plexus injuries and families
with newborns, so that they may become aware of our support and
informational network;
-
to
enhance our community involvement and sense of belonging.
In
order for these efforts to be successful, we need YOU to play an
active role. There are many ways to become involved in this
project and we hope that you will pick at least one thing that you can do to bring awareness to your family, friends
and community.
These
daily themes have been used since the inception of Awareness Week:
Sunday:
Uniting
The World In Awareness
Monday: Ringing in Awareness
Tuesday: Getting the Word Out ~Talking Up Awareness
Wednesday: Outreach
to the Medical Community
Thursday: Sharing and Educating ~Handing Out Awareness
Friday: Stretching The Limits ~A Day of
Therapy Awareness
Saturday: Wrapping Up Awareness
You do not have to
follow the schedule but we do hope that when each day begins, you will take
a moment to stop and think about that day's goal. You can
read more about the daily themes by reading this document: Awareness
Week Daily Themes and Schedule.
Two
ceremonies that were chosen for Awareness Week in the years past
were bell ringing to "Ring in Awareness" and
candle-lighting to "Bring Brachial Plexus Injuries To
Light". We hope that once again, this year, you will join
us in our "traditional" ceremonies during Awareness
Week.
We
all need to be involved in Awareness, not only for the
sake of our children, family and friends who have a brachial plexus
injury but to educate those around us so that this injury can be
prevented. Many of the tools you need to spread awareness will be
found right here, on this site. Awareness
Committee members are ready to help you get started and
also, there's an awareness message board where we can partner and seek
support from one another. Let's work together and bring
awareness to the world!
