Newbie - BPI

Post by mavericksfan_04 »

Hi Everyone

I was diagnosed with nerve damage in the brachial plexus at C8 as a result from shoulder surgery on January 26th 2012. They believe the Interscalene Block that was given to me before surgery somehow damaged my nerve.

This has had a major affect on my life. The pain is so extreme with sharp pain shooting down my arm and into my hand and shooting/jabbing pain into my neck. I also experience tingling/pins & needles & pain shooting into my chest at times. The left side of my arm/hand/fingers are numb and I've been losing grip in my hand.

How does everyone stay positive and deal with the pain? I've tried Lyrica with no luck & currently trying Neurontin with Nucynta ER & I'm not having much luck with it either.

Does anyone know of a Brachial Plexus Specialist in Dallas Tx? I've seen post about Specialist at the Mayo clinic in Houston but was hoping there was a Specialist close by.

Any advice or information you could provide will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Leslie

Hi Leslie
Sorry to hear about your nerve damage and pain. Im from UK so cant advise on clinics but as for the pain i recommend Lyrica (pregablin) over Nerontine (gabapentine) as its a newer more affective drug, but i found i needed to keep taking it for at least a fortnIght before it worked properly. Also i recommend Amyltriptaline at night, its an antidepressent that helps sleep and neropathic pain. Finally try your absolute best to raise your pain threshold and keep yourself busy. I hope it all works out for you. Ben

Hi Leslie,
I've done a lot of research on BPI and the best are Mayo in Mn, Dr Spinner and team, but there are no real standouts in Tx. California and the east coast have some buy I would advise Mayo in Mn.
I have been for surgery and am recuperating. I have several follow up spots and my IMs pays all travel and Dr costs. I don't know your predicament but good luck.

Hi leslie, there is a mayo clinic in Arizona too, but somehow they couldn't help me. What dosage of Neurotin are you on?
