Are there any support groups in the Capital Region of NY?

My niece is just shy of her first birthday. Her parents are having a hard time with getting insurance approvals though for her medical needs. I was wondering if there were any people local that they could talk to about how you all got through all the surgeries and similar stuff. My niece's mother is learning disabled, as is her dad to a lesser extent, and I was just wondering if there were any groups out there that they might be able to learn more about the injury and how to get through the hardships they seem to be experiencing.
