Are you a physical or occupational therapist, and does your center offer physical and/or occupational therapy for children and adults with brachial plexus injuries? I am an occupational therapist working in a pediatric outpatient clinic with both occupational and physical therapy available to children with brachial plexus injuries. Indicate the number of years of experience in treating brachial plexus injured (bpi) patients. I have been treating children with brachial plexus injuries for approximately 4 years. Identify what bpi patients you have experiece in treating (obstetrical brachial plexus, trauma, adult and/or pediatric. I have treated primarily children with both trauma and obstetrical brachial plexus injuries. How many bpi patients have you treated? I have treated over 75 children with brachial plexus injuries. Do you follow your patients post surgically? I follow patients after both neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery. Do you or your staff have a working relationship with physician(s) who are brachial plexus injury specialists?. I worked in the Brachial Plexus Clinic at St. Louis Children's Hospital with specialists in brachial plexus injuries including Dr. T.S. Park (neurosurgery) and Dr. Charles Goldfarb (orthopedic surgery). I have also established a working relationship with Dr. Luciano Dias since relocating to the Chicago area. What therapy techniques, methods and interventions do you use, including, but not limited to, aquatic therapy, hippotherapy, kinesiotaping and splinting. I use traditional therapy intervention as well as kinesiotaping, NMES, and splinting. Aquatic therapy is also available through our clinic for our patients with brachial plexus injuries. We are able to refer to local organizations for hippotherapy. Are you familiar with NMES/TES stimulation or other types of stimulation? If yes, what type(s) of stimulation do you use?. Yes, I use NMES. List any specialized education or training and/or seminars or clinics you have attended in treating bpi individuals. I attended and helped with organization of Introduction to Birth Brachial Plexus Palsies at St. Louis Children's Hospital in September, 2002. Have you authored or co-authored any articles regarding brachial plexus injuries or participated in any research studies? No. Indicate any other facts that you feel would help families and individuals understand your practice I currently work for The Pediatric Place, a division of Physiotherapy Associates. We provide occupational, physical, and speech therapy for children with a wide variety of diagnoses, ages 0-21. |
