Arizona BPI Therapists
Krista Morgan, PT
Are you a physical or occupational therapist, and does your center offer physical and/or occupational therapy for children and adults with brachial plexus injuries? I am a physical therapist. Our agency has a multi-disciplinary team which also includes occupational therapists. We work with children. Indicate the number of years of experience in treating brachial plexus injured (bpi) patients. One year. Identify what bpi patients you have experiece in treating (obstetrical brachial plexus, trauma, adult and/or pediatric. I currently work with one child who has a diagnosis of OBPI. In the past, I have worked briefly with an adult with traumatic BPI. How many bpi patients have you treated? One child. Do you follow your patients post surgically? I began working with this child after an orthopedic surgery. Do you or your staff have a working relationship with physician(s) who are brachial plexus injury specialists?. Not currently. To my knowledge, there are no physicians or specialists in the Flagstaff area. What therapy techniques, methods and interventions do you use, including, but not limited to, aquatic therapy, hippotherapy, kinesiotaping and splinting. I look at the big picture, and try to include techniques which assist in meeting the overall needs of the child. I provide primarily home-based services which focus on the child as a whole being - who is conected and supported by a family rather than focusing only on the injured brachial plexus. The child with whom I work has had clinical and post-surgical follow up from specialists in the metropolitan areas. I have experience with hippotherapy, but do not currently have any working relationship with a facility in Flagstaff. This would be something I would be very interested in developing, however, I have limited experience with kinesiotaping. Are you familiar with NMES/TES stimulation or other types of stimulation? If yes, what type(s) of stimulation do you use?. I am familiar with stim, but do not currently use it. Have you authored or co-authored any articles regarding brachial plexus injuries or participated in any research studies? None. Indicate any other facts that you feel would help families and individuals understand your practice Our agency is located in Flagstaff, Arizona. We have a multi-disciplinary team (OT, PT, SLP, school psychologists, counselors, special education teachers, teacher of visually impaired) which works with children in early intervention systems throughout Northeastern Arizona, including the Navajo Reservation. Working in rural and somewhat remote areas, I have found local resources difficult to come by. While my experience with BPI is limited, I have learned quite a bit of information which might be helpful to families. I'd be happy to share what I've learned, and assist in navigating the systems found in various parts of this state. |
