Hello everybody,
Here is our son's story. You can contact us any time, for sharing any info here, or any info you consider useful.

Our son, Daniel Alexandru was born on Ferbuary 13, this year, at Assunta Hospital. He ha been delivered by Dr. Milton Lum. We do not get into further details on why it happened, at least not now. In our opinion we could sue the doctor for what he did. Anyway, due to the incompetence of this doctor Alexandru's right hand has not moved, as he has been pulled very baddly, by the head, and by the under the armpit. He has been diagnosed as having Erb's Palsy - a WRONG diagnostic, since he could not move ANY part of the arm or hand. He was suffering from TOTAL Brachial Plexus Palsy.

After 3 weeks of futile visits at local doctors we have concluded that there is no adequate medical care for such an affection, and we have taken our son to Romania, for an intensive treatment there.

At the age of 1 month Alexandru has started an intensive therapy treatment, consisting of: electro-therapy and kineto-therapy.

Electro-therapy (therapy by electrical stimulation) consists in using devices (electro-therapy machines) generating special electrical pulses, through electrodes placed on the skin. This therapy is designed to stimulate the peripheric nerves in the arm, and to strengthen the muscles. It maintaines as well the muscle volume.

The kineto-therapy (therapy by movements) consists of special therapeutic "shaking", or "tremour" movements, which have the same purpose as the electro-therapy. It basicaly complements the electro-therapy. This is NOT the simple joint flexibility treatment that is shown on the Internet, inclusing on the BPP website, as well as the new UBPPN.

The result of the 3 months therapy in Romania, at Bucharest's Children Hospital have been very good. Alexandru could bring his arm on the chest (while laying on the back).

We had to return to Malaysia (due to my work), and, after a short further progres, when even the hand could be brought to the mouth, there's been a no progress period of 3 months.

After long searches and efforts we have finally found a proper, less expensive electro-therapy machine in Italy. We have restarted the electro-therapy at home (as we have been trained on how to do it at the hospital in Bucharest), and we have starting to see good results, again. Our son is starting to move his index finger, and his thumb. Actually he has been starting doing this while he was in Romania, but this function went away - probably due to the lack of electro-therapy.

We are now very optimistic, and we hope that he will recover much faster now. Alex is 8 months now, and we expect a good improvement withi the next months.

Please share your story with us. Even though no two cases are the same we could get useful info from each experience.

PS: We are, of course, continuing with the kineto-therapy, at home.
