| This story is New Story submitted by Luz Figueroa, son Jose Jr. on January 21, 19100 at 20:13:02: Luz Figueroa, son Jose Jr. is 36, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Family:Husband Jose, daughter Mitzi, son Jose Jr. My husbundad Jose and I moved to Edmonton from Chile in 1987. I was 4 months pregnant with our daughter. After having a big baby (9pounds 4 ounces), I knew that I would have to be very careful with my second pregnancy. When I was about 7 months pregnant with our son, I started to ask the Dr. for a c-serean because I knew my baby was very, very big. Two weeks later he did a sugar test, my next appointment two weeks after showed that I had develop pregnancy diabetes. He sent me to the hospital for further tests. I was there for 4 days, being the University Hospital I was examined and questioned by all kind of Drs. students, specialists, etc. I asked each one of them to do a cesarean. Finally, my doctor came on a Saturday afternoon and said he was going to help me have the baby that day. What ended up happening is that he indused me. After many hours of pain and frustration, he forced my baby out. His head came out, but got stucked in the shoulder, pushed him inside again and then everyone came over my stomach and pushed him out!!!! This caused my full rutpure and my baby to be rushed to intensive care. He started breathing a few minutes later. HE WEIGHTED 10 POUNDS 4 OUNCES AT 8 MONTHS! The doctors told me that the nerves were damaged and he couldn't move his left arm, but this was temporary, but the nerves take about a YEAR to recover. I went home after a couple of days very sore, with a sick baby (breathing problems too) and a 2-year old toddler at home. With no help, no support (my husband was working 24 hours a day to support our little family), I managed to survive. After my baby was over a year old I changed family doctor and he sent me to a specialist who discovered that my son's nerves C5 and C6 were ruptured! Too late for surgery, therapy or anything! We've gone to the top of the ladder here in Edmonton. Our son is now 10-years old, he has limitations in his left arm movement (upward movement to 45 degrees and outward movement up to 20 degrees) after pleading the doctors for a second opinion, he agreed to send me to Calgary Children's Hospital to see another of the same doctors. But what I gained the most was the experience of meeting this family. The Gee Family. Kimberly (the mom) introduced me, and my husband) to all the research information that she had discoverd. The Texas Children's Hospital and the Quad procedure with Dr. Nash. She gave me a copy of the 100 and more pages long of research she had pulled together. It is like a new window of hope open. Now we have to do a lot of homework ourselves, because the Canadian Health system is very controling and would not allow us to take our son to a surgery in the United States. But, for the sake of my son's future and his healing, not only physical but emotional, with the help of the Lord, I will try my best. At least to have him assessed by other specialists. Do any of you knows anyone here in Alberta, Canada, that had a surgery in the Texas Children's Hospital that I could contact? Thank you for reading my story, would appreciate to hear from anyone outthere.
