Story by: Nicole M in Cedar Rapids/Iowa
My daughter, Hannah, was born on December 30th, 2000. I had issues with my doctors towards the end of my pregnany when I asked them to tell me how big the baby was. I felt that I could not deliver this baby, there was no way! Of course I was ignored like a lot of you.
I went into spontaneous labor on my due date. Everything was fine until she became stuck. I had 2 nurses on either side of me applying fundal pressure and the doctor had her foot against the bed to give her leverage while she pulled with all of her might on my baby. After she reached up and pulled her out by her arm, she started her reheased explanations about shoulder dystocia and how everything would be fine in a couple weeks.
She was not fine in a couple weeks and a very nice pediatrician who just happened to catch a conference in our small town where Dr. Laurent happened to be a guest speaker not long before I delivered, stopped by and told my husband and I all about TCH.
Since the delivery, I was told I did indeed have gestational diabetes. I am 4ft. 11in. tall and gave birth to a 9lb. 1oz. baby. Hannah showed every symptom of having a mother with diabetes.
Hannah is now 5 months old and she has gained a lot of movement back. We have sent 3 videos down to TCH, and at this point they feel she will need a Mod Quad in Jan. of 2002. We are also in the very beginnings of a law suit.
Hannah is a very happy, well adjusted baby. She has an older brother by 2 years to the very day. His name is Tyler, and her Daddy's name is Kai. Hannah is very much a Daddy's girl.
We are looking forward to going to the Chicago picnic in August. Our registration is in the mail! It has been a true blessing that we have found this website. I feel so enabled now that I have talked to some of you who are dealing with doctors, videos, lawyers, and frustration. Thank you ubpn!
