Story by: Lainie in Manchester, UK

My message to you really is to stay cool - I'll be 30 next week and have Erb's. It isn't a big deal to me. My right arm movement is restricted, feels weak and can be painful if I use it wrongly i.e. try and do things the way other people do them, not how I do them. If i can use it in my own way though, there isn't a problem. I write with my left hand, but I can type with both hands with a flexible arm support, and play the piano for short periods. I can carry more shopping with my right arm than with my left, so my muscles must have compensated! My parents were very encouraging and got me to use my right arm as much as poss when I was a child. The thing is, disability is in the eye of the beholder - if you are confident and believe in yourself you will be fine. There are adaptatiomns available now that can help with most things, if need be.
