This is an update story from the old "share your story". My son was born July 6, 1998. He weighed 8lbs 15oz at birth. It was my son's right arm that was affected. When he was born he had no movement to his arm at all. The dr told me that it was something minor and it should heal in a couple of months. I wish I would have known then what I know now. After about 6 weeks there was no change to his arm. At the time I had a very good and concerned peditrician. He immediatly got my son in OT 3 times a week. He was slowly progressing, but not to my liking. At 6 months old we took my son to the Universtiy of Kansas Medical Center to see a pediatric neurosurgeon. A week before we left, my son just out of the blue started to lift his arm to his mouth. It's like all of those months of therapy had finally kicked in. That was more than 2 years ago and while my son is still in therapy, he has come a long way since birth. The daycare that he is currently in did not even know that he had a "special" arm until
he had been there for about 9 months and only after I told them. He does everything for himself and does not let his "special" arm limit his activity. After reading some of the new stories that are posted, all of these angry feelings came over me again. I was mad at the military dr who didn't know what he was doing when he delivered my son. All I can say to those of you who are going through this painful ordeal---hang in there. It will get easier. If anyone has any questions or just want to vent email me.
