WELCOME!!

I would suggest you see a BPI Specialist ASAP! Check out the medical resources directory and look for someone who treats adults with traumatic injures!! The babies are treated a bit differently. Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN is VERY experienced!!

Post here and keep your head up! I have had the injury for almost 9 years... I have some function return in my hand but that is about it! Life goes on... we are all here to support you!

Too bad zachp. Too bad you had an accident(and it sounds bad), too bad your arm is affected as it is, too bad this, too bad that and too bad it'll be awhile before you can actually stop hearing all the 'too bads' and start hearing all the 'that's greats'. It'll be awhile but every day is a victory. You'll be surprised how great the small victories feel.
At this point you have not given enough information for anyone to advise you one way or another. Other than seeking a qualfied second opinion. Sooner than later and that is important. In fact, stop reading this and go right now it's that important. Time is of the essance. Once you've done that and you've set a course for your immediate future c'mon back here and you'll find the best bunch of people from all over the world, that you ever had the misfortune of coming to know.
To know about an avulsion is to know about the injury.
Now you need to know what blind faith is. What hope do you have? Only all the hope in the world. If ever you lose hope you lose everything. Even if it seems as if you may have nothing you'll find in the smallest most remote place in your soul that you still have hope. And a little goes a long way. One day, one hour one moment at a time. You'll find it or it will find you. Just please don't ever think for one moment that you don't have hope. Nothing about this happens overnight.
Please feel free to contact me if you want. Call me, email me or call me out here on the boards where I might find it. The best I can offer is an ear. Lots of folks here have suffered this plight for ages. I'm just a kid as far as my bpi goes. I've only had my ltbpi for about three years. Thing is, we're all here for each other as well as ourselves.
That is three years too long.

Please do not believe that there is no hope. The information you are reading currently may be making you feel as though things are more bleak than they are and that if you do not get this all resolved over night that you have no hope. That is not true. I am not sure where you are located but my daughter has two of the best drs ever at the Mayo Clinic in MN. Dr Alexander Shin and Dr Bishop. My daughter's injury was obstetric and very severe. She had no use of her arm, her first surgery failed and we had honestly wasted 7 months. Her drs typically work with adults who have injuries as a result to accidents etc vs it being a result of a birth injury like Taylor. They have literally worked miricles for Taylor even though she was not who they typically saw and by the time they saw her she was well past the time frame that was ideal for any surgery to regain nerve function. I am sure they can help you. There are also drs all over the US if MN is not an option.

Ok, I do not get it?? You know I really am a Dinosaur some times. When you guys got your BPI did not they have a doctor at the emergence room who new the signs of a BPI injury :| You should of been seen or referred to one. To leave a person with out a direction is JUST    !!! That does TICK me. ITS SO WRONG!!! : :| .

I thought more about this situation of lack of direction. First things first,
 First Go back to what ever Doctor that been treating you and ask him to give you a referral.
Someone hear might give you a name of a bpi doctor in your area.
BPI IS ABSOLUTELY ASP ISSUE for sure ;) do not delay in doing it please it way to important.

Remember you are your best advocate for sure! YOU NEED direction for sure.

Man I write a :) lot ,

Tom,
Well I know in my situation, which I assume is not that much different than many traumatic injuries, they were just more concerned with the life saving initially. The other stuff just has to be an afterthought. Once I was ok enough, they did back surgery. Was pretty much immobile most of the two weeks in the hospital. Then was instructed to keep the arm still for months while my broken humerous heals. Then try to recover the muscle from the atrophy. Then get diagnosed that it doesnt work because of the brachial nerve. Before you know it 6 months has gone by.
