Jennifer Wingrat
I am a pediatric occupational therapist with a clinical specialty in brachial plexus injuries and have worked with hundreds of individuals with BPBI and traumatic BPI from infancy through adulthood in my almost 30 years of clinical practice. As a pediatric occupational therapist, my interest was always in issues related to the hand and arm, so I was thrilled to help develop a multidisciplinary brachial plexus clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD where we have been providing comprehensive care for patients and families since 2007. I am now the Clinical Manager and senior therapist in that clinic and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science at Towson University in Towson, MD where I teach pediatric occupational therapy and conduct research on best practices for early evaluation and treatment of BPBI. I am currently conducting a registered clinical trial looking at the efficacy of the education that is provided to caregivers with a goal of identifying strategies to best support caregivers and families in the first year of life.
As someone who is deeply committed to advancing the understanding, care, and support available to individuals and families in the BPI community, I am honored to be joining the UBPN Board and look forward to contributing to the meaningful work and mission of the organization. When I’m not seeing patients, teaching, or conducting research, I am an avid Yogi and love to travel, especially to visit my daughter in Colorado where you can find us hiking on a trail somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.
